E-Petitions Service Suspended

The new government has suspended the current E-Petitions to the Prime Minister service and deleted all exiting petitions. This inlcudes of course the petition previously reported on this website and submitted by Chris Ingram web editor, concerning the planned attacks on health and safety by any new government.

The e-petitions website now shows no petitions as having been lodged and carries this statement:

"With a new Government in place a review is taking place of online services, including e-petitions. We are committed to improving the e-petitions process and are looking at ways of ensuring that it functions as part of a cohesive approach to public debate and transparent government. A full announcement on how we plan to use these and other services across Government will be made as soon as this important work is completed.

Existing e-petitions, submitted to the previous administration, will not be carried forward to the new administration as part of this process. We will welcome resubmission on issues of concern to the improved e-petitions system when it is launched later in 2010."

Given that the Tory led coaltion government only yesterday (8th June) announced that they would be putting the whole issue of spending cuts to public opinion and asking the pubic to choose which cuts and therefore job losses, will be metered out to which section of the working population, it is quite clear that they are only interested in views of those agreeing with their political dogma.

E-petitions by their very nature allow for disent and quite clearly this is something the Tory led coalition government do not wish to hear at this time.
